When an elephant died on the open plains of the Northern Sabi Sand Reserve, the Nkuhuma pride and the Black Dam male were quick to claim it, availing themselves of the opportunity for a lasting feast. But as seasoned safari-goers know, meals in the bush rarely come without drama—and this one would prove no exception.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the tragic news of Langa’s cub, killed by the Nkuhuma pride on August 10th. Sadly, its sibling likely met a similar fate. This loss serves as a stark reminder of the wild’s harsh realities, where survival is paramount. Though heartbreaking, such events highlight the delicate balance of nature. Langa will likely enter oestrus soon, and we hope her next litter thrives, continuing the cycle of life in the wild.

This weekend, we witnessed a fierce clash between the Mantimahle brothers, a dominant lion coalition, and a hyena clan over a hippo carcass. Blood and roars guided us to the scene where two hyenas lay dead, and a third was severely injured. This conflict highlights the brutal reality of the wild, where lions and hyenas compete for survival. Such events remind us of the importance of preserving natural habitats and respecting the wildlife that inhabit them.
